May: Change

May: Change

Date: 2025

I often daydream about how constant change is. We could spend 12 hours walking from one part of our neighborhood or city and walk back only to find that how it looked when we started might look completely different.

Maybe a tree fell during those 12 hours. Maybe someone painted the side of their wall. Maybe a new business opened. Maybe a home was demolished. It will feel familiar in most cases, but it is different.

And although this is constant this change, somehow we collectively are uncomfortable with it. We like the comfort and stability of the things we know, the things that give us a sense of ease. It's a way for us to know what to expect.

When our favorite park is destroyed from a flood or our favorite beach is covered with ash and chemicals, it is change. It is to be grieved. But it is also an invitation. It is an invitation to examine the reasons we clung so passionately to that status quo and an invitation to open ourselves to new paths, new opportunities, new horizons.

It's scary or it's exciting.

You choose your change.

Journal Prompt

What was a moment when you felt excited about change?

What was a moment you were terrified of change?

Were you scared because it was asking you to grow or because it crossed a boundary you did not want to cross?

Do you find that change is easier or harder the more you move through life?
