These moments are our initiation
They are the gateway to our soul
What do we really "have"?
Do we "own" land?
Do we "own" things?
What goes with us?
What is ours to "take"?
Could you walk into a field of daisies and simply appreciate their beauty without plucking a single one?
Could you enter a cave of diamonds and leave them and your future riches alone?
What has broken in our DNA to make us so greedy?
What has made us take from the Earth's soil?
Take her air?
Take her water?
Take her land?
We leave with nothing to take
And she stays with nothing we gave
Can we learn to give more than we take?
Can we learn to tend more than to own?
Can we learn to build with her in mind?
Can we learn to make space so her creatures can thrive?
Or do we take from Earth like we take from Mom?
Always sucking 'til the milk is gone
Do we help a horse today only to eat a cow tomorrow?
How did we lose sight that love is not only in our sorrows?
Do I only pray when I can't see the sky?
Do I only pray when I've lost my fight?
Could I
Should I
Pray like today is every day?
Could I
Should I
Pray like every neighbor is in my heart
with or without a home?
Why must I wait for a moment of such tragic fate
To make my hazy eyes awake?
I can see the love in their eyes
I see how they fight to survive
I can give like I have nothing to lose
For nothing is really mine
It is a mirage I choose
Thank God for another day
Another day
In a moment of complete tragedy, what are you grateful for?
